PLASTIC MATERIALS
♻️ Plastic profiles
Clear, technical reference for four common plastics — properties, recycling codes, and everyday applications.
PET #1
Polyethylene terephthalate
Code 1 · widely recycled
Properties Clear, tough, gas barrier, lightweight
Resistance Moderate heat, good chemical resistance
Common uses: water & soda bottles, food jars, polyester textiles, blister packs.
One of the most recycled plastics.
HDPE #2
High-density polyethylene
Code 2 · widely recycled
Properties Stiff, strong, opaque, chemical & moisture resistant
Resistance Excellent low temp, UV resistant (with stabilizers)
Common uses: milk jugs, shampoo bottles, detergent containers, pipes, outdoor furniture.
Very low risk of leaching.
PP #5
Polypropylene
Code 5 · recyclable (growing acceptance)
Properties Semi‑rigid, fatigue resistant, high melting point
Resistance Withstands microwave, acids, solvents
Common uses: yogurt containers, bottle caps, straws, automotive parts, living hinges.
Microwave-safe & durable.
PETG #7
Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified
Code 7 (other) · check local program
Properties Excellent clarity, impact strength, easy thermoforming
Resistance Chemical resistant, doesn’t crystallize (like PET)
Common uses: medical packaging, face shields, blister packs, retail displays, 3D printer filaments.
Glycol modification makes it tougher & clearer.
Recycling codes: ♻️ 1 (PET) · ♻️ 2 (HDPE) · ♻️ 5 (PP) · ♻️ 7 (PETG, other) Always verify with local recyclers — guidelines vary.
